TerraPower designed a passive breeder reactor that burns U-238 (classified today as nuclear waste), works like a candle: a small ignition zone converts surrounding fuel as it runs. No refueling for 60 years, vs. 18 months for conventional reactors. The U.S. government facility in Paducah, Kentucky stores enough U-238 waste to power the entire Earth carbon-free for hundreds of years. Cannot melt down like Fukushima. Air-cooled by natural convection. No pumps required. Safe as long as atmosphere and gravity exist.
